National stock indices gained this morning with the VN-Index on the HCM Stock Exchange up 1.9 per cent and HNX-Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange up 2.9 per cent.
In HCM City, the VN-Index reached 391.19 points thanks to 220 advancers among the 290 codes.
The value of trades increased by 18 per cent compared to last Friday, totalling VND494.4 billion (US$23.2 million) on a volume of nearly 35 million shares.
Blue chips performed quite well today. Of the 10 leading shares by capitalisation, only food processor Masan (MSN) lost 0.9 per cent and Sacombank (STB) retreated 1.4 per cent.
Many blue chips and hot stocks hit their ceiling prices (the highest rise permitted in one day), including insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), property developers Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG), Vincom (VIC) and Hoang Quan (HQC), steelmaker Hoa Phat (HPG), financial conglomerate Ocean Group (OGC), PetroVietnam Finance (PVF), investment corporation Tan Tao (ITA) and Sai Gon Securities Inc (SSI).
SSI was also the most active stock on the southern bourse with around 1.85 million shares changing hands.
The HNX-Index in Ha Noi closed at 63.47 points, winners outnumbering losers 251-48.
Both the market value and volume improved by over 82 per cent, standing at VND391.3 billion ($18.4 million) and 43.1 million shares.
With more than 6.4 million shares traded, Kim Long Securities Co (KLS) became the most active stock nationwide. It hit its ceiling price of VND10,800 per share.
