Light Your Hope Scholarship Foundation was established by Petrovietnam Finance Joint Stock Corporation (PVFC) in 2007 (Initial name was “PVFC Light Your Hope Scholarship Foundation”). It operates in the principle of voluntariness with non-profit objective. The purpose of the Foundation is to appeal to PVFC staff, organizations and individuals inside and outside the country for labor and financial contribution to carry out study encouraging and talent supporting activities, in which major activity is to grant full scholarship to poor students who are under specially difficult living situation but ranked good during university study; and to assist them in improving living/working knowledge/skills, accumulating experience, to orient career for them, so they are confident to enter new stage of life.
A. OPERATION RESULTS
I. Scholarship granting:
1. Scholarship awardees:
- In 2007, 50 students were awarded (in which, Marubeni-Itochu sponsored 20 students).
- In 2008, 30 new students were awarded, and total awardees: 80.
- In 2009, 55 new students were awarded, and total awardees: 135.
- In 2010, 125 new students were awarded (in which, Marubeni-Itochu sponsored 20 students), so total awardees: 260.
2. Scholarship value: 9 (nine) millions VN dong/ 1 student/ 1 school year. Student is sponsored for whole university period (4-6 years).
3. Total scholarship amount which has been granted during last 4 school years (from 2007-2008 to 2010 -2011) is over 4 (four) billions VN dong.
II. General activities
1. After 4 years operated as an internal foundation of PVFC, on 6th January 2011 the Foundation received the official establishment license from Ministry of Home Affair with new name Light Your Hope Scholarship Foundation. Socialization of Foundation creates favorable conditions for Fund activities: co-operate with social organizations, State departments, media units, enterprise and individuals… contribute together to light the hope of future generations of the country.
2. Beside material support, the Foundation assists students in improving living/working knowledge/skills, accumulating experience through training course, conference, extracurricular activities. For many students, the Foundation really has become their 2nd home.
3. The Free Job Exchange Online will be opened soon on the Foundation’s website http://www.hocbongpvfc.vn/. That will provide more opportunities for students to find jobs after graduation; and companies have pool of candidates for their vacancies.
4. The Community Light Your Hope has been steadily developed in many areas: Hanoi, HCM city, Hue, Da Nang, Can Tho… We have set up nation-wide network of volunteers, and collaborators supporting the Fund.
5. Achievements of students over last years: 2 students graduated at the beginning of this year with excellent result and have had good job; 2 students obtained scholarship abroad for further study, 27 students are going to graduate in this June & July. Others are still in university, almost of them have good studying results.
B. FORWARD PLAN:
1. Continue to develop the Foundation steadily and strongly in quality and quantity: promote fund mobilization; increase annual scholarship quantity upto 200 from 2011; and expand criteria of awardees for high school students;
2. Strengthen activities of co-operation, propaganda in order to obtain the support from State departments, enterprise, social organizations and community. Especially, the Foundation is working with Vietnam Television (VTV) to co-operate in media sponsor.
3. Well organize and maintain the website of Foundation and Job Exchange Online.
4. Support students to establish Tutoring Center, which will create environment for them to practise, experience; and create extra work after studying time.
Support graduates to find job: PVFC will offer some positions for right candidates, and recommend other Corporations of Petrovietnam to recruit appropriate candidates among graduates.
